About us

The Connaught Care Home aims to provide affordable and sustainable care to the elderly residents of Alderney. We principally do this through the provision of care in-house at our location in Le Val, through two primary services; full residential care for those unable to care for themselves, and sheltered living accommodation for those residents who are still able. The Connaught has a long history of providing care and support and is essential for the island's ageing population, which is expected to continue to increase in future years.

The care home was originally situated in the Royal Connaught Square and was providing residential care for 16 residents from 1997 until 2011. Over time the facilities became dated and were deemed not fit for purpose as a care home. The States of Alderney, working with the Board of Directors, initiated a project to build a new on-island facility.

In 2011, the Connaught moved to the purpose-built premises that was joined to the existing Jubilee building by a link corridor. Since then, the needs of the population have continued to grow and an extension alongside the current building was approved, which is now complete.

By the end of 2026 following a phased opening of the extension to residents, the facilities will include;

  • 38 individual fully furnished en-suite rooms
  • Three communal lounge areas
  • A large dining room with kitchenette area
  • Assisted bathing facilities
  • Lift access
  • Landscaped gardens
  • Car parking facilities
  • Minibus and car

The Jubilee provides sheltered living accommodation for older adults who wish to live independently but require some support with tasks of daily living. The accommodation provided includes:

  • 14 self-contained studio apartments
  • Fully adapted bathing facilities
  • A laundry room (serving both sites)
  • A communal lounge
  • A sun lounge
  • Main kitchen (serving both sites)
  • Gardens

The health and social care services provided on the island include the Mignot Memorial Hospital, which has 14 long term nursing care beds providing 24 hour medical care for adults as well as general short-stay hospital care.

Our domiciliary care service, which mostly serves over 65s, currently has around 40 clients and provides personal care, help around the home, a shopping service and assisted bath service.

The Meals On Wheels operation is staffed by volunteers who deliver the food provided by the Connaught's catering team.

The island has a GP service, dental practice, ambulance and a Home Aids operation run by Age Concern.

The Connaught is registered with Guernsey Health and Social Care Department (HSC) to provide 24 hour care and support for up to 39 residents including those with dementia. We offer long term care, short term Respite Residential Care and day care services for adults (predominantly over 65s). Our sheltered living accommodation at the Jubilee boasts 14 studio apartments, all with cooking facilities and en-suite bathrooms. All our services are delivered by a team of dedicated, skilled, and trained social care professionals, in a homely, warm and welcoming environment.
