Age Concern

What is Age Concern?

Alderney Age Concern was formed in September 2004 and became affiliated with Age Concern Guernsey in April 2005. Age Concern Guernsey then changed their name to Age Concern Bailiwick of Guernsey to promote inclusivity.

Barbara Benfield is the founder of Age Concern Alderney. A committee of eight individuals supports her, volunteering to run  the Social Centre, the Charity Shop, and Community Care & Support.

What does Age Concern do?

Age Concern Alderney supports the elderly in our community in many ways, offering advice, companionship, transport, financial assistance, outings and holidays. They also support other groups, societies and clubs by assisting with transport and help.

Age Concern holds a social centre every Wednesday afternoon, which is open to all. At the centre afternoon tea is served and they also host quizzes, talks, bingo and outings.

There is an annual holiday to the UK, members pay for the holiday either by installments or a one off payment. It's a fun packed week with many optional outings planned - however, nothing is compulsory, so feel free to enjoy however you feel comfortable.

Age Concern manages the Charity Shop. The committee are responsible for the smooth running of the shop and the shop is manned mostly by volunteers from the community.

Age Concern also manages the Community Vehicle, which supports the elderly and our members with transport to and from appointments and outings, along with supporting other clubs, groups, churches and societies including the Connaught Care Home and the Mignot Hospital.
