SIF grant for domiciliary respite care in Alderney
Alderney's Royal Connaught Care Home has been awarded £14,880 under the Social Investment Fund (SIF) Small Grants Programme.
The money is to be used to develop the Connaught's 24-hour domiciliary respite care programme, which will provide temporary or emergency respite for lone clients with advanced health issues.
The programme supports third sector charitable projects in the Bailiwick, including those that improve the health and wellbeing of people with specific needs, disadvantages or vulnerabilities.
"This money will help us provide short-term respite care for people who need only one day of support but do not wish to leave their own homes," said Liz Bowskill, the Connaught's Operations Executive Director.
"We'll now be able to launch this service for people who have a Respite Care Certificate and need one of our domiciliary care team to look after them for 24 hours at home."
Since its incorporation in 2020, SIF has awarded over £7.5m towards a variety of charitable organisations for projects that are most needed in the Bailiwick.
Meanwhile, the phased opening of a new extension, which has now begun, will create dedicated respite rooms at the Connaught to alleviate the current waiting time for those who need longer-term respite care.
